But what does "grow best" mean? Well, agricultural products harvested during the appropriate season ripen for a longer period on the plant. This ensures that their nutrient levels are optimal compared to when they have not reached their best time.

These products not only have a more significant positive impact on people's health because of their nutritional contribution. They also have other advantages:

 

  • Their taste is better since they are at the ideal life cycle stage.
  • They have lower prices than out of season. This is because producers need to circulate them to avoid having a large supply left.
  • They contribute to environmental conservation, as their farming practices are more sustainable. They use less land and water and cause less pollution and soil degradation.

 

Impact of seasonal fruits on the food industry

 

Food producers can also benefit from using seasonal agricultural ingredients. Of course, profitability is one of the main gains. Acquiring supplies during their peak growing season makes them more economical. Thus, they bring better quality to the final product and do so at a lower cost.

 

In addition, using these fruits is a sustainable production practice, especially if they are local. Short transport distances reduce their environmental impact and carbon footprint in this scenario. Traditional food production systems can have adverse effects on the environment. For many, they are even harmful when it comes to food safety.

 

Similarly, people cannot deny the influence of establishing a seasonal local supply chain on a producer's reputation. On the one hand, it supports the economy of the environment around the company. On the other hand, it promotes stronger and more fluid connections with the actors in that community. This social awareness can elevate the brand's position among consumers (AFPA, 2022).

 

Incorporating seasonal agricultural products into industrial food processing brings multiple advantages. They represent high-quality ingredients, come at a lower cost, and contribute positively to environmental sustainability and business reputation.
